Tattoo Aftercare
Taking care of your new tattoo is crucial to ensure that it heals correctly and maintains its color, and vibrant design. Here are steps for tattoo aftercare:
1. Keep it Covered
After finishing your tattoo session, your tattoo artist would typically place a bandage over your tattoo. Keep it covered for as long as your tattoo artist recommends, usually a couple of hours to protect the area from bacteria. Some may use a plastic wrap, while others use second skin.
2. Gently Clean the Tattoo
After removing the bandage, gentle cleaning is needed. Use lukewarm water, unscented soap to carefully clean the area. Then, pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel, don’t rub it.
3. Apply a Thin Layer of Moisturizer
Once your tattoo is dry, apply a thin layer of a specific tattoo healing ointment advised by your tattoo artist.
4. Repeat Cleaning and Moisturizing
Clean and moisturize the tattooed area 3-4 times daily until it is completely healed. The healing process usually takes about 2-3 weeks.
5. Avoid Sunlight
Exposure to sunlight can cause your tattoo to fade quickly. Keep it covered or use a sunblock once it’s healed when exposing the area directly to sunlight.
6. Avoid Scratching
As your tattoo heals, it may start to itch. Bear in mind that scratching or peeling off skin flakes can damage your tattoo and delay the healing process. If the itchiness becomes unbearable, apply more moisturizer.
7. Keep the Tattoo Dry and Clean
Overly saturating your tattoo in water can cause the ink to fade. This means you should avoid soaking the tattooed skin in water for prolonged periods, like while swimming or taking long baths, for at least 2 weeks.
Remember, every body is unique and thus might react differently. If you experience severe pain, persistent redness, swelling, any signs of infection, or if you have any concerns, don't hesitate to consult with your artist. Always follow the aftercare instructions provided by your tattoo artist.
piercing Aftercare
We’re excited for you and want to make sure you take proper care of it. Following the right aftercare is crucial to avoid infection and other complications. Here are some essential tips:
- Keep your fingers and clothing away from the piercing. Avoid picking at the piercing or jewelry as it can cause infection.
- Clean your piercing 2-3 times a day with a saline solution (SODIUM CHLORIDE). Remember to wash your hands thoroughly first.
- Moisten Q-tips with saline solution to clean the visible parts of the jewelry and the surrounding area. Make sure there are no scabs or debris stuck to the jewelry.
- Always clean your piercing after taking a shower to remove any soap residue that can irritate it. Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools until it has fully healed. If needed, use a waterproof bandage from the pharmacy, but remember to clean the area after removing it.
- Do not remove the piercing until it has completely healed as the hole can close quickly.
- If an infection occurs, do not remove the piercing before visiting the studio for examination and further instructions.
Specific care instructions for different types of piercing:
- Facial/ear piercings: Cover nose screws with adhesive tape at night to prevent them from falling out. Avoid sleeping on the same side as a fresh eyebrow or ear piercing during the first week to prevent swelling or irritating the wound.
- Nipple, surface, and navel piercings: Leave the bandage on for 24 hours to allow the pierced area to rest. Cover the piercing for the first few nights to prevent snagging or bumping into it while sleeping or exercising.
- Oral (mouth/tongue) piercings: Clean the outer side as mentioned above. Use mouthwash (CORSODYL) every time you eat, smoke, use snuff, or drink anything other than water. Brush your teeth gently, avoiding the actual wound of a tongue piercing. Avoid kissing and oral contact for 6-8 weeks. Stay away from very hot or spicy foods, and alcohol until swelling subsides.
Healing times vary for different piercings, ranging from 1-12 months. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. If you suspect a serious infection, please consult a doctor. Take care and enjoy your new piercing! Feel free to rock it with confidence!
